Vet mHealth Offers Mobile Technology for Military Caregivers

While many Veterans self-manage their medical conditions, a large percentage rely on family and friends to be caregivers for their daily needs. Military caregivers play a crucial role in improving the quality of life for Veterans, including physical, emotional, and transitional support. There are an estimated 5.5 million military caregivers in the United States. Most military caregivers experience adverse effects on their physical and mental health while caring for their loved one. The Vet mHealth mobile app is designed to save time, improve organization, and reduce stress for military caregivers by helping them to gather day-to-day health data on their loved one, have all health records at their fingertips, and communicate easier with the rest of the healthcare team.

Vet mHealth is a voice-interactive mobile app for Veterans and their authorized caregivers to easily collect real world health data and other health records in one place and securely share it with anyone, anywhere, at any time to achieve their health goals. The Vet mHealth app is free for Veterans and it allows them to easily invite their authorized caregiver to enter health information for them. The app also:

  • Integrates the caregiver as part of a Vet’s healthcare team.

  • Provides secure document storage for Veterans’ medical records and insurance and legal documents to improve caregivers’ preparation during healthcare appointments and reduce caregiver stress during emergencies.

  • Ensures caregiving continuity for Veterans by allowing them to seamlessly change caregivers.

  • Allows military caregivers to enter health information for themselves to promote caregiver health and well-being.

The Vet mHealth mobile app is available in the App Store and Play Store, and it is listed in the CARIN Alliance’s Application Gallery. CARIN stands for “Creating Access to Real-time Information Now”. The CARIN Alliance’s accreditation means that the Vet mHealth app aligns with CARIN’s interoperability principles and adheres to the CARIN Code of Conduct. Inclusion in the Application Gallery highlights the Vet mHealth platform’s exceptional value in improving healthcare accessibility for Veterans while protecting their sensitive health data.
